To provide technical instruction and supervise clinical education classes in support of the Medical Assistant Program including development and maintenance of the curriculum, and preparing students for employment as Medical Assistants. The faculty’s member role encompasses the general areas of learning facilitation, personal and professional development and institutional and community service. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning as it relates to preparing students for employment and certification in the medical assisting profession. Performs all other relevant duties which may be required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other relevant duties may be required.
Teaching:
Demonstrates skill and/or
knowledge in teaching discipline.
Demonstrates competence and
interest in the use of technology in the classroom and willingness to explore
new instructional methodologies.
Makes
continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and
utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
Teaches courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs. Develops and uses a syllabus for each course or laboratory within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines and submit one copy to the department chair.
Plans, develops, and uses a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives and which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles. Evaluates students at least four times each semester, measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and inform them of their progress in the course in a timely manner.
Reviews, evaluates, and recommends student textbooks and
learning materials.
Maintains professional
relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
Provides access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods. Demonstrates competence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom and willingness to explore new instructional technological methodologies. Where appropriate, assists the chair with the routine maintenance of instructional laboratories.
Keeps accurate student records and submit related
reports and forms within requested timelines.
Professional Development:
Establishes annual objectives for professional growth
in consultation with the department chair. Keeps pace
with developments in the discipline.
Learns technologies that
support student learning. Maintains the
required knowledge and credentials. Participates in the evaluation process for self, department, and
college.
Institutional and Community Service:
Participates in scheduled
institutional service activities including opening week events, conference
days, and commencement exercises.
Provides advice and/or
assistance to students regarding instructional or program-specific issues. Actively participates in discipline,
advisory, department, college, or system meetings, committees and/or
activities.
Familiar with and adheres to all policies and procedures
of HCCS.
Participates in college-related
activities such as student activities, selection of faculty, community
education, recruitment of students, and/or special programs.
Participates in business and/or
student activities and/or community activities that foster goodwill and promote
the mission of HCCS.
Reviews, evaluates and revises programs and practices to
meet professional standards, college and program accreditation requirements,
state-mandated guidelines, and community business/industry research needs.
Participates in the HCCS
planning process by assisting in the formulation of departmental objectives and
goals and in establishing budget priorities.
Assists in the articulation of
courses and programs with secondary and post-secondary institutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
To
perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the
essential duties and responsibilities list above. The qualifications listed below are
representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills and/or abilities
required.
Bachelor’s
degree in nursing, health, education, technology related field. Allied Health
Practitioner must be a certified medical assistant or currently licensed or
eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in
Minimum of three (3) years
current clinical work experience in a health care setting. Experience in classroom and clinical skills
instruction preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to prepare lesson
plans, course outlines and student performance evaluations. Possess the ability to work in diverse work
environment.
Must be willing and able to
teach day or evening classes at a number of sites around the city. Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer
usage and software are required. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate
effectively with a diverse professional, community and student population.
Must possess good
organizational and planning skills. Per HCC Policy C: 4.7 Drug and Alcohol Free
Workplace, a drug and/or alcohol test is required if a conditional job offer is
made.
